Liquid Gold

I have discovered that I have excellent taste.

But I also have no brand loyalty. Case in point:  Like many women, I moisturize my face an average of twice daily--each morning and evening.  But I've never fallen in love with any particular product.  I quite like the smoothness of Clinique's Moisture Surge, but, generally, I just use whatever sample I might have on hand.  And if I have no samples, I pick up some Oil of Olay at the nearby CVS.  I've never really cared that much.

Until now.

Last year, I attended a certain event, and included in the swag bag handed out at the end of the evening were several Sisley samples.  I'd never used Sisley.  In fact, I'd never given a moment's thought to Sisley.  When I arrived home that evening, I tucked the small box of samples into my bathroom drawer and prompty forgot about them, until a few weeks ago when I'd finally reached the end of whatever moisturizer I was using.  Something made me remember that box, and in pulling it out I found a tiny .5 ml tube of something called Hydra Global.  This will get me through until I can get to CVS, I thought.  So I removed the cap, dabbed a little on my face, and...oh wow.  It was so silky.  And my goodness, it smelled so good.

Each holiday season, my family complains that I am difficult to buy for.  In response to this, I've learned to create a list from which they can choose, if they'd like.  This year I had the brainstorm to put the Sisley moisturer on my list.  After all, that little sample tube isn't going to last me forever.

So, for the sake of the list, I Googled Sisley.  And then nearly fell over upon discovering that a 1.4 ml bottle--a bottle less than 3x the size of my small sample tube--retails for $250.00.  $250.00!

I decided to put it on my list anyway.  I figure that my mother will have a good laugh when she sees that.  Meanwhile, I'll be milking my little tube for as long as I can.  And preparing myself to the inevitable Oil of Olay in my stocking.

  1. Not that it's a true bargain, but you can get it for $170 on eBay. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sisley-Hydra-Global-Intense-Anti-Aging-Hydration-40ml-/370547347817?pt=US_Skin_Care&hash=item564657d169#ht_1173wt_1049)

  2. You deserve it. Your face is what everybody sees so your lotion should be at least as expensive as your clothes.
