Big Law: Awkward

Each year, a very large conference of practitioners in my practice area gather in a warm state to discuss the latest developments in the law, network and eat at expensive restaurants. Each year my practice group sends one person. The partners are all "been there, done that", or so I thought, so they began rotating attendance among the associates. I figured that it would be another couple of years before the opportunity came my way, but a few months ago I was asked if I wanted to be the one to attend this year.

Hhhhhm, you want to send me to summer weather for a week in the depths of winter? Twist my arm.

Recently I was in Senior Partner's office and he asked if I could join him in a certain client meeting. When I told him that I would be out of town and at the conference, his face fell. "I've never been to that conference. Why didn't they ask me?"

Uh.... Super awkward.
